Hybrid Fruit Book

November 2011
Paper, Slide Transparencies
5.5" x 8.5"; 6 pages

This book was created to mimic the layer function of
imaging software programs. Using slide
transparencies, permanent markers, and paper
(copies of photographs of a pear core, a peach pit,
and my tongue taken during the summer), I created
this hybrid fruit. By turning each page, one can peel
back the layers of the fruit... first revealing it's outer
skin, then the flesh underneath, then the seeded
core, and finally actually peeling back the layers of
the image until one uncovers and removes the
stippling, the outlines, and finally the filler color.

I am remaking this book, using Plexiglas
instead of slide transparencies. The new book
will have a wooden cover and will be bound
using hinges and wire.
